Discover Hygge in the Early Years
Why Hygge?
Hygge (pronounced Hu-guh) is a Danish concept and is about embracing the simple joys and pleasures in life. In early years this translates into creating a cosy, warm and homely environment for children, where children are encouraged to learn at their own pace and aren’t rushed.
Creating a home-from-home feeling:
At our nursery, we embrace the Danish concept of Hygge, creating a warm, welcoming, and cosy environment where every child feels safe, nurtured, and valued. Our space is designed to foster comfort, calm, and connection, with soft textures, natural elements, and a sense of harmony that encourages exploration, play, and emotional well-being. We believe that true happiness lies in the simple pleasures of life—whether it’s sharing a quiet moment with a book, enjoying creative activities, or connecting with nature. Our approach to learning is rooted in the belief that comfort, security, and joy are the foundation for a thriving, confident child, allowing each little one to flourish in their own time.
Promoting a calming atmosphere
By focusing on simplicity, comfort, and a connection to nature, we have created a Hygge-inspired nursery where children feel safe, relaxed, and valued—a space where they can thrive emotionally and creatively.
Encourage peaceful play
We encourage peaceful play by modelling calmness, patience, and respect in our interactions with children. When they observe adults engaging peacefully, they are more likely to adopt similar behaviour’s. We promote shared play and collaboration, while also creating cosy spaces for relaxation. Mindfulness is fostered through yoga, and we incorporate natural, calming play materials. Additionally, we use positive reinforcement to support and guide peaceful interactions. We believe outdoor play and exploration should always be available, allowing children free flow indoors and out no matter the weather.
